Misty Range knock on your door, you open it, but all you can see is a thick smoke punctuated by the sound of psychedelic guitar riffs. A few weeks later you notice that strange melodies and odd chord structures seem to be stuck in your head. There are vague imitations of the guitar sounds seemingly in your bloodstream. You have been exposed to the secret musical formula Misty Range, a duo consisting of Arve Paulsen and Stig Rennestraum. The formula has now leaked and has taken a physical form, their self titled debut, released November 15. Arve Paulsen writed the best part of the music, the murmured vocals and plays all the instruments apart from drums and percussion which would fall under Stig Rennestraum’s area of expertise. “Stig’s background is as a jazz drummer and he has a distinct style that veers from the raw and explosive to the quiet and delicate all the while meticulously precise.” – Arve on his bandmate Stig takes inspiration from Arve’s distinctive songwriting and understanding of sound. “Arve’s song structures are unpredictable yet intuitive. A but like old blues tracks where a rhythm is established and then embellished with all sorts of unexpected surprises. He makes pre-war blues, energetic prog and classic rock ‘n roll to sound like they’ve all come from the same root.” The band’s debut was recorded at Tåkeheimen Studio with Marcus Forsgren (Lionhear Brothers / Jaga Jazzist) and Arve himself sharing production duties and includes collaborators such as Emil Nicolaisen and Lena Nymark.
