Ivan Mazuze Group’s music is a blend of chopi and muthimba rhythms with elements of marrabenta and maskanda from Mozambique and South Africa as well as Latin and afro-jazz. The group is based around Ivan Mazuze a sax player and composer from Mozambique. In 2010 he won best jazz album and best instrumental jazz / fusion album at the Mozambique Music Awards, for his South African released album “Maganda” (Imazuze). The same year he was also nominated for best contemporary jazz album at the South African Music Awards (SAMA). Mazuze has toured extensively in Southern Africa and internationally, and has work from Norway as his home base since 2009. A new album on a Norwegian label was released towards the end of 2010.
